Big Sean recently opened up about a surprising diss he received from Kendrick Lamar on a leaked song, which eventually led to an apology from the Compton rapper.
During an in-depth interview with Charlamagne Tha God on the “Out Of Context” podcast, published on Friday (August 2), the Detroit rapper addressed the 2023 leak.
The song in question was an unreleased version of “Pandemic” from TDE’s 2018 Black Panther soundtrack.
Sean shed light on the situation, explaining that it all started with his 2016 track “No More Interviews.” In the song, he referenced fast-rhyming rappers, which led to speculation that he was targeting Kendrick.
Although this wasn’t the case, media and fans, including Joe Budden, perpetuated the narrative, making it seem like a real beef.
“He made that narrative so f**king real that I think it really did become a thing,” Sean shared. “So I get to the point where I’m like damn, should I have something prepared?” Despite reassurance from Kendrick’s manager, Dave Free, that there were no issues, the leaked 2023 track caught Sean off guard.
“I’m like damn, mothaf**ka said it wasn’t sh*t! It was crazy.” However, upon reflection, Sean realized that since the leaked song was from 2018 and the official version had different lyrics, Kendrick had likely moved past the narrative.
To clear the air, Sean texted Kendrick, and the Compton rapper swiftly apologized, putting an end to the misunderstanding.
