Southern rap figure Rico Wade, a pivotal member of the Dungeon Family and one-third of the famed Organized Noize production team passed away at the age of 52 on Saturday, April 13. The cause of his death remains undisclosed as confirmed by his family.
Big Boi, a close collaborator with Wade during their tenure with OutKast, took to Instagram on Monday, April 15, to express his deep emotions and honor the legacy of the late producer.
Accompanied by a poignant collection of photographs and videos spanning their 30-year companionship, the rapper shared his sentiments: “This is a different type of hurt …. Slick Ricky Wade .. I know you’re with us STILL … in a bigger role now… Big Angel Energy… the Highest of Vibrations … Praise Yah.”
In addition to the visual tribute, Big Boi shared a video reminiscing on Wade’s significant contributions to the world of Hip Hop.
Reflecting on Wade’s role within Organized Noize, Big Boi noted, “Rico Wade, a core member of Organized Noize, served as the spokesperson for our collective of producers.
His connection with LaFace Records stemmed from his relationship with Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins from TLC during their school days. This connection led him to Pebbles, who in turn introduced him to LA Reid.
“He was the bridge that brought us to LA Reid, and he, along with the other producers responsible for Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, played a pivotal role in signing OutKast. Organized Noize paved the way for our journey with LaFace Records. Without Rico Wade, Sleepy Brown, and Ray Murray, OutKast wouldn’t be where it is today.”
This heartfelt tribute from Big Boi echoes the profound impact Rico Wade had on the landscape of southern rap and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
