Popular food influencer Michael Duarte, known online as @FoodWithBearHands, was fatally shot by police in Castroville, Texas, after allegedly threatening officers with a knife.
According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance on November 8 involving a man acting erratically. When confronted, Duarte reportedly charged at a deputy shouting, “I’m going to kill you.” The deputy then fired twice, hitting Duarte.
He was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he died from his injuries. Duarte had just celebrated his ninth wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica, and leaves behind her and their daughter.
Known for his barbecue and grilling videos, Duarte had over 2 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. His agency called him “a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend.”
Authorities say the Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
