Bad Bunny has taken legal action against a fan for allegedly posting unauthorized concert footage on a YouTube channel.
In a recent lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the Puerto Rican reggaeton artist accuses Eric Guillermo Madronal Garrone of uploading full song performances from Bad Bunny’s concert in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 21, without proper authorization.
According to the lawsuit, Garrone recorded multiple videos of Bad Bunny’s live performance and shared them on his YouTube channel, MADforliveMUSIC.
Bad Bunny asserts that he holds the rights to the live performance music, and Garrone did not obtain consent to record and distribute the content online for free.
The lawsuit further alleges that Garrone capitalized on Bad Bunny’s fame and music to attract viewers to his YouTube channel, diverting views and advertisement revenue from Bad Bunny’s official YouTube page.
Despite attempts to issue takedown notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), YouTube initially removed Garrone’s videos but later reinstated them following a counterclaim by Garrone.
Upon investigation by TMZ, it was found that the contentious videos on Garrone’s channel have been removed, except for one featuring the concert orchestra that opened for Bad Bunny in Salt Lake City.
This particular video, running for 9 minutes, showcases the quality of Garrone’s filming equipment and his proximity to the stage.
Bad Bunny’s legal team argues that if Garrone had been recording and posting similar videos of Bad Bunny’s performance, as alleged, it constitutes a significant departure from sharing casual cell phone footage on social media platforms like TikTok.
While shorter clips from the concert are circulating on TikTok, none match the length and quality of Garrone’s alleged uploads.
In response to the unauthorized distribution of his performance, Bad Bunny seeks an injunction to prevent Garrone from sharing any further footage online. Additionally, he is pursuing damages of $150,000 for each video posted, or any actual losses incurred as a result of Garrone’s actions.
