Anthony Anderson recently shared a wild and unforgettable story from his time working with the late rap legend DMX on the set of Exit Wounds. During an appearance on Byron Scott’s Fast Break podcast, the actor opened up about a bizarre yet hilarious incident that took place over a meal at Red Lobster.
Recalling the unforgettable day, Anderson explained how DMX, despite being allergic to shrimp, couldn’t resist indulging in the seafood dish. “X ordered shrimp three ways—broiled, fried, and sautéed,” Anderson began.
“He was tearing it up. We were having a great time at Red Lobster, laughing and talking. But about 20 minutes into the meal, I heard this sound… like he was choking.”
Concerned, Anderson checked on his co-star. “I’m like, ‘Yo, X, what’s up?’ And he just starts making these choking noises. Then he says, ‘I’m allergic to shrimp!’” Anderson continued.
“He starts breaking out in hives, but DMX just shrugged it off like it was no big deal and kept eating, telling me, ‘Yeah, but I love the taste of it!’”
The situation took a wacky turn when DMX, desperate to relieve an itch caused by the allergic reaction, grabbed a steak knife and attempted to stick it in his ear. Anderson recalled stopping him in the nick of time: “I had to jump in and stop him! I’m like, ‘X, what the hell are you doing?’ He’s like, ‘I can’t get the itch!’”
