Hip-hop fans, rejoice! André 3000 has promised that more new music is coming in 2025. The legendary OutKast rapper dropped this exciting news during an interview with Amazon Music at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival over the weekend.
After nearly two decades of silence, André released his debut solo project, New Blue Sun, last November. The album showcased his unexpected pivot to instrumental sounds, leaving fans eager for what’s next. Thankfully, it seems they won’t have to wait as long for a follow-up.
“New music, for sure,” the iconic artist shared when asked about his plans for 2025. “New ways to distribute and express. I don’t wanna pinpoint what it is, but I just wanna express more.”
While André 3000 didn’t specify if he’ll continue with his newfound love for the flute or return to his rap roots, he’s been vocal in the past about his lack of inspiration to write lyrics. At 49, the rapper has admitted that age plays a factor in his creative process, making a rap-heavy comeback unlikely.
Despite the uncertainty around his next sound, André opened up about an interesting contractual hiccup with his label. Although New Blue Sun marked a milestone for him, it didn’t count toward his contract as a solo artist.
“My label won’t count this album against my contract,” he revealed. “It’s interesting because it’s all about legal stipulations from the ’70s, where artists would turn in anything to get out of their deals. There’s a clause that says the next recording has to be 90 percent like the previous one.”
While André joked about labels trying to prevent artists from handing in albums made of “handclaps,” he acknowledged his team’s support despite the business complexities. “They know I’m not turning in a handclap album. They get it. But as a business, this is the stance they’ve taken,” he explained.
With his innovative spirit and willingness to explore uncharted territory, André 3000’s next move is bound to shake up the music scene. Whether it’s rap, flute melodies, or something entirely unexpected, fans can rest assured that 2025 will bring the creative genius of André back into the spotlight.
