A Saturday morning turned frightening for the Aliquippa Jr. High School football team when their bus was involved in a serious crash near Pittsburgh, sending more than 20 students to the hospital.
According to officials and parents at the scene, the team bus was carrying 28 people, including 25 students, when the crash occurred. At least 21 student athletes and the bus driver were transported to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation. The exact conditions of those injured have not yet been disclosed.
Two additional adults who were riding on the bus escaped the accident without injuries. The Aliquippa School District superintendent confirmed he is personally heading to the hospital to check on the students and provide updates to families. Parents were notified as soon as emergency crews responded.
The team’s official Facebook page noted around 11 a.m. that the players had left the crash scene and were being checked by medical professionals. Authorities have not released details on the severity of the students’ injuries. However, the community is rallying in support of the young athletes, as families and school officials await further word from doctors.
