Albania has officially banned TikTok for 12 months, citing its influence on bullying and violent behavior among children. The decision follows a fatal stabbing between teenagers that reportedly stemmed from a TikTok dispute.
Education Minister Ogerta Manastirliu said officials are working with TikTok on safety measures like parental controls and age verification. However, after consulting 65,000 parents, authorities deemed a ban necessary.
While TikTok denies direct links to violence, Prime Minister Edi Rama says discussions with the company continue. Critics argue the ban stifles free speech, with protests planned for March 15.
This move aligns Albania with other nations scrutinizing TikTok’s impact on youth, as global concerns over social media safety grow.
