A rare white sperm whale similar to the famous 19th-century novel ‘Moby Dick’ was caught on camera by SOS Dolfijn. SOS Dolfijn released a video showing the 10 metre-long whale.

The ‘Moby Dick’ look-alike whale was spotted off the coast of Jamaica. SOS Dolfijn is a rescue organization for stranded whales and dolphins based in the Netherlands.

The video is from a distance and a little blurry but does show the whale’s white skin and vapour spouting from the whale’s blowhole as it surfaces

Shane Gero, a scientist and founder of the Dominica Sperm Whale Project, confirmed it’s “definitely a sperm whale.”

Gero said seeing a white sperm whale is a rare event. “It’s awesome,” he said. “Obviously, it’s exciting.”
