A 55-page report shows that a Meteoroid hit the James Webb Telescope, causing it to suffer ‘significant uncorrectable change.’ NASA had previously said that the meteoroid didn’t damage the James Webb Telescope, but the 55-page report shows different.
NASA built the James Webb Telescope to withstand meteoroid hits, so needless to say, they were a little excited to see how it would handle the impact. Although the 55-page report shows ‘significant uncorrectable change, the James Webb Telescope continues as planned.
NASA did confirm the meteoroid hit would not interfere with the telescope’s mission. The damage did, however, damage one of the 18 gold-coated hexagonal mirrors, leaving the telescope with 17 mirrors.
