Sophie Roske, who admitted to plotting the 2022 assassination of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, was sentenced Friday to 8 years and 1 month in prison plus lifetime supervised release.
Prosecutors called the punishment “too lenient” and vowed to appeal, saying Roske’s plan amounted to terrorism against the judiciary. Authorities said Roske traveled from California with a gun, tactical gear, and tools, and had searched online for ways to kill silently.
In court, Roske apologized to Kavanaugh and his family, calling her actions “selfish and misguided.” Judge Deborah Boardman stressed the need to protect judges from political violence.
