Footage has emerged online showcasing the recent arrest of 6ix9ine, the prominent artist behind hits like “GUMMO”. The rapper, born Daniel Hernandez from Brooklyn, found himself attempting to talk his way out of a predicament stemming from missing a court appearance.
The incident traces back to August 9 when 6ix9ine was apprehended due to three traffic violations received in June. Law enforcement pulled him over for exceeding the speed limit and revealed he was driving at a staggering 135 mph in a 65 mph zone on the Florida Turnpike. Subsequently, he was cited for operating an unregistered vehicle and lacking car insurance. Failing to make an appearance at a court hearing scheduled for July resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Recently disclosed body camera footage portrays the 27-year-old artist being pulled over by police. He was requested to provide his driver’s license, which he did not possess at the time. Following this, he was asked to step out of the vehicle and subsequently handcuffed.
Expressing disbelief, 6ix9ine questioned, “You’re arresting me over a traffic warrant?” An officer clarified, “You failed to attend your court hearing.”
6ix9ine responded, expressing ignorance, “I wasn’t aware. When did this happen? What’s it about?” He maintained that he had never received a ticket. After being placed in the back of a police cruiser, he engaged in a debate with an officer regarding the individual authorized to drive his vehicle back to his residence. He claimed that since he had provided his license plate details to the officer on paper, his bodyguard could operate the vehicle.
Furthermore, 6ix9ine directed his brother and bodyguard to rendezvous at the local detention center with bail money in hand to secure his release. He then continued his conversation with the officer about the charges against him.
Voicing his confusion, 6ix9ine stated, “I still don’t get it,” 6ix9ine says. “All my cars I put under my brother’s name, I don’t put nothing under my name.”
The officer pointed out that he had failed to furnish the appropriate registration during the traffic stop.
6ix9ine argued, “No, I ain’t have the registration on me,” he continues. “But they run the VIN numbers. All my cars belong to me … Don’t you just give [the citations] to the ticket clinic? … No registration is criminal?”
He elaborated, “You know what’s so crazy? I get pulled over all the time, every single time, but the paperwork never be in the car but every cop knows my cars. I got all my cars, they know. I’m telling you, they know my insurance good, my license good, everything always good. That’s why I don’t care.”
In Florida, not appearing in court can result in fines or imprisonment, as outlined by West Palm Beach Defense. The gravity of the penalty hinges on the case’s nature and the discretion of the presiding judge.
Law enforcement records divulged that 6ix9ine was booked into Palm Beach County jail on the night of the arrest, and he secured his release around three hours later by posting a $2,000 bond.
