Florida’s beaches just got an unexpected delivery… and it wasn’t seashells.
On Sunday morning, a local beachgoer in Walton County discovered a shocking sight: nearly $500,000 worth of cocaine washed up on the sand, packaged with none other than cartoon legend Yosemite Sam on the wrapping. According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the massive drug haul weighed in at 25 kilograms.
Authorities shared images of the unusual packaging on social media, warning residents not to handle suspicious items found on the shore. “If you stumble upon any ‘square groupers,’ please contact us immediately and avoid touching them,” the sheriff’s office urged. “These packages may be extremely dangerous.”
The term “square grouper” is a local slang reference to bales of drugs that float ashore… a common phenomenon during Florida’s hurricane season, even before major storms strike. The sheriff’s department confirmed the cocaine has been seized and logged into evidence.
This isn’t Florida’s first bizarre beachside drug drop. In recent years, authorities have seen narcotics arrive in everything from black duffel bags to colorful cartoon-themed wrappers… often with traffickers using creative branding to mark their product.
As hurricane season heats up, officials are reminding beachgoers to stay alert… because the next wave might bring more than just seaweed.
