50 Cent recently revealed the reason behind his gradual retreat from rap over the past decade, and it has a lot to do with the current state of the genre.
In an interview with Earn Your Leisure at Invest Fest, which started circulating on Tuesday (October 1), the G-Unit mogul shared his thoughts on how modern Hip Hop no longer aligns with his artistic vision.
The legendary rapper explained that the shift in lyrical complexity within today’s music is a major factor in why he’s distanced himself from creating new content. “If you listen to the music that’s out right now, I have to tap into my stupid side,” 50 Cent said candidly. “I’d have to dumb down my lyrics to fit in with what’s popular.”
He went on to explain that his decision to pivot toward film production and TV development was a result of wanting to make a broader impact outside of music. “This is why I haven’t produced as much music as before,” 50 said. “Through film and TV projects, I can affect things on a larger scale.”
Although 50 Cent has expressed feeling out of place in today’s rap scene, he has still hinted at the possibility of making a return to music, leaving fans eager for a potential comeback.
Could the rap veteran still have some surprises up his sleeve? Only time will tell!
