In a surprising revelation, 50 Cent shared a story from hip-hop history that sheds light on the making of the “Forbes Remix” of his 2007 hit “I Get Money.”
During his recent appearance on The Breakfast Club (October 29), the G-Unit icon revealed that he and JAY-Z collaborated to craft Diddy’s verse on the track, with some of the most memorable lines attributed to JAY-Z’s lyrical finesse.
The conversation kicked off when Charlamagne Tha God brought up the long-standing rumors about 50’s involvement in writing Diddy’s bars, particularly lyrics that hit differently in light of Diddy’s current legal battles.
Charlamagne referenced a meme suggesting the lines were an indirect “confession,” asking, “They said you wrote two verses for Diddy. One was [G. Dep’s] ‘Let’s Get It’ and the other one was on the ‘I Get Money’ remix. They said you wrote it and it’s him confessing to the crimes! Did you see the meme?”
Charlamagne then played a part of Diddy’s verse: “Bo knows but Diddy did it / Cars, jewelry, and big homes, yeah, Diddy did it / Shootouts, coastal beefs, yeah, Diddy did it / But my lawyer’s so good that Diddy got acquitted.” 50 Cent jumped in with laughter, sharing, “Jay helped me with that,” sending the room into a fit of laughter.
50 further detailed JAY-Z’s contribution, explaining how the Brooklyn legend’s lines, like “Shootouts, coastal beefs,” referenced events from the East Coast-West Coast feud… events that 50 clarified he wasn’t personally part of. The discussion also touched on recent accusations from Keefe D, a former gang member who claims that Diddy was involved in the events leading to 2Pac’s death.
Despite the heated history between the two New York rap giants, 50 gave JAY-Z his props, praising his skill for crafting lyrics without writing them down.
“There were things Diddy wanted to say, and Jay just knew how to slide them into the verse,” 50 explained. He went on to describe how JAY-Z’s process is so refined that he can remember complex ideas without needing a pen and paper, a skill that still impresses 50.
“It’s like he’s already got it ready, so when I heard it, I was just like, ‘Put it in there!’” he recalled.
