Federal agents swarmed Hyundai’s massive EV site Thursday, detaining 450 workers in one of the largest immigration raids in recent years.
The operation, led by ICE, HSI, FBI, DEA, ATF, and Georgia State Patrol, halted construction on Hyundai’s $7.6B battery plant, though vehicle production at the adjacent factory continued.
Video from the scene showed armed Homeland Security agents ordering construction to stop immediately.
Hyundai and its partner, LG Energy Solution, said they are cooperating with federal authorities and paused battery plant work. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry raised concerns about protecting its companies and citizens.
Officials say the raid is tied to an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged unlawful employment practices.
