Meet Verda Tetteh, the 17 teen-year-old student who has a heart of gold. Verda will be attending Harvard College on a full scholarship this fall. At her high school in Massachusetts, she won an additional $40,000 to use for expenses while at Harvard.
When the school decided to give her the $40,000, she quickly decided not to accept because she felt blessed enough already to have a full scholarship to her dream college. Also, her mother is an immigrant from Ghana, and she earned her degree at 47 years old, which inspired Verda to tell the high school to give it to someone else who really needs it. Verda plans to study chemistry at her soon-to-be college.
